Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
The book 'Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth' is based around a boy named Prez who is a very independent and quiet boy who lives in his own little bubble. Once Prez's grandad becomes ill, things start to become strange and he is put into temporary care as his grandad is unable to look after him any longer.
While Prez is living his life with his new family, he invites in a so called 'alien' called Sputnik who everyone else sees as an average dog. As the new friendship gradually becomes bigger, Prez and Sputnik must make a list of '10 spectacular ways to save the world'!
This novel has a very unique story line and a good meaning behind it. This is one of the reasons this book took me by surprise, as if I were to see it in a library I wouldn't be likely to pick it up. I liked the fact that it was very different from the other books I have read in this Carneige challenge. I enjoyed the amusing parts of the book and I also liked how the book gave a different perspective of the world around us by adding much detail into how things looked to Prez and Sputnik.
In conclusion, this book was a very quick and easy read for me. I would recommend it to ages 10+ as there is quite a bit of detail.
