Sophie, Petts Wood Bookworms

The Bone Sparrow

I liked that the author used the narrative of a child living in a refugee camp because it made me feel more sympathy for them. The way Subhi tells his story was thought-provoking because he is sometimes quite blunt about things we would find crude or disgusting, which just shows how normal this is for him. I think that really helped the reader feel more pity for him. I wasn't sure about Jimmy's character: once she came on the scene, it felt too much like the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. However, I did enjoy the book, and it definitely taught me a lot of things about the world that I had no idea about.
