William, Lancaster Royal Grammar School
When Nicky and his learning-disabled brother Kenny come across a rook being attacked by a sparrowhawk, they chase off the predator and rescue the rook. Kenny is convinced that love and affection is all that's needed to keep the bird alive but Nicky, doubts it. Anyway Nicky has other things to worry about, like avoiding the bully at school and finding a way to talk to the girl he likes. I give this book 8 out of 10 because the author has managed to compact a brilliant quality book into small interesting novel. The characters are developed well and I feel like I know them, like they were my friends.
