The Hate U Give

I loved reading The Hate U Give as it was a truely inspirational and insightful book. The story is about a girl named Starr Carter who tragically witnessed one of her close friends, Khalil, being shot by a police officer due to their race, and her journey to finding her voice and her confidence to speak out the truth amougst all of the lies told about her friend and to fight the terrible injustice of his death. Starr also faces the challenge of living two separate lives, one in her school in the peaceful suburban area and the other living in a rough dangerous neighbourhood. It was a very emotional and gripping book, with several moments of humour that made me smile, despite the sad reality of what these characters had to face, which made the message of this book even more powerful as the book had the ability to make me feel what the characters felt, smiling when they did but also experiencing their struggles in life through Angie Thomas’ incredible writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who is 13+. It was truly an unforgettable read!
