Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
Personally I don’t really understand the book and the story it was trying to portray to me. However, I did like the way the characters were created.
There are two main characters within this book: one is Alice Nightingale and the other is Manny James. Alice Nightingale is a girl that lives with her brother and her grandma in a house in the stars at oktober bend. She communicates through poems because her brain is rewired by the stars; she has an extremely close relationship with her brother until she meets Manny James who changes her forever. Manny James is a boy that finds poems from Alice Nightingale and has always wanted to meet her. He is an ordinary boy whereas Alice is a girl that has had her head screwed by the stars at oktober bend.
At the beginning of this book I was slightly confused because the way it was written in a style of a poem didn’t make much sense to me due to the fact that, that part of the book hadn’t been explained very well but then later into the book I started to understand why it was written like that. The middle of the book is slightly better as I started to understand the story line however, I didn’t like the genre and the way that it had been written. Therefore I haven’t got to the end of this book so I can’t comment on the end because I personally didn’t like this book due to the fact that it isn’t the kind of genre that I would chose to read.
I didn’t like the beginning of this book because it was really hard to read. One of the reasons for this is that the whole story did not include capital letters which made it really hard to follow the idea of the book. Another reason I didn’t like this book is because of the way that lots of it was explained through poems which didn’t make sense to me within the book.
