The Hate U Give

I enjoyed this book a lot. One of my favourite things about this book was the fact that nothing was sugarcoated; Angie Thomas beautifully conveyed the harsh reality of the book and did not censor anything (I know some authors would censor some things, considering the subject matter). The themes of the book were obviously apparent throughout, and the characters were strong and consistent. However, this book may not be suitable for everyone: The subject dealt with in this book is highly controversial (shooting of an unarmed black teen), and the language is not clear or appropriate for many people (swearing, slang, use of the n-word), and for those reasons I would recommend this book for older readers (14+).
