The Smell of Other People's Houses
Set in 1970s Alaska, the novel provides us with differing viewpoints on growing up and relationships of a group of teenagers whose lives interconnect. I did not really enjoy this as it read like a series of short stories and the period and location was not one that particularly appealed to me. The experiences of growing up in 1970s Alaska, the hardships of life, love and death, were portrayed poignantly and evocatively and it certainly has a wonderfully apt and thought-provoking title.
