A book of two halves! Adam's day is well described, the family relationships believable and his story well told. However, I found myself skim-reading the ghost story; it didn't hold my attention at all. The coming together of the two storylines seemed somewhat tenuous, but that's probably my fault because I wasn't interested enough to follow the supernatural element too closely. I couldn't help feeling that Ness was trying too hard to write another winner and I really hope that this doesn't win just to give Ness his Carnegie hat-trick.
