Sophie, Hardenhuish Reading Stags

After the Fire

I really loved this book because the way that it switched back and forth throughout the whole story intrigued me and I couldn't put it down. I re-read it for Carnegie book group and I feel I got more out of reading it a second time - it really helped me understand the story better. It deals with some quite harsh topics and it was interesting seeing them in the way the writer wanted to show you and how many other ways you could think about what was happening in the story. It was realistic and there was always that sense that something was about to explode even when you know that it would be impossible for it to all explode.
