Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
Sputniks Guide to Life on Earth is about the adventures of a young boy named Prez when he meets an alien named Sputnik. Prez is a shy boy who rarely speaks but communicates with Sputnik through his thoughts. Sputnik appears as a dog to most people but Prez sees him as an alien. Later in the book it is revealed that Prez's grandpa also sees him as an alien. Prez finds out that he has to help Sputnik find 10 good things about Earth or it will be shrunk. This mission causes the pair to go on wild adventures to find good things about Earth. I found this a very interesting book. I liked the way the author had a deep message hidden under the fun, lightness of the book. It was interesting to see the plot of the story unfold. I was gripped at the very start when Prez was talking about all the past events in the book, it made me want to read on to see how he got to the point he was at. I thought that the fact that Sputnik was seen as a dog was very obvious and as this was meant to be a plot twist it let me down a bit. Overall I thought this was a good book though it is for a younger age group. I would give this book 7 out of 10 because of the obviousness of the plot twists.
