Rook is a book about an ordinary boy's life. However, and not only because I'm a girl, I related more to the bird than Nicky. It is, however, a short and easy read.

Perhaps it's a comment on how their circumstances have made them mature quicker, but both Kenny and Nicky seem older than their actual age. This made Rook less realistic for me. Which is a shame as Anthony McGowan wants you to step inside 21st-century Britain when you turn the pages of his latest book.
