Where the World Ends

Written by Geraldine McCaughrean, Where the World Ends is an interesting read, one I highly recommend. It isn’t mind-blowing nor is it terrible. However, it manages to find a comfortable balance of familiarity and intrigue.

The book is about a group of a dozen boys stranded on a desolate island.

The characters are mediocre; although there are a few surprises scattered in there particularly in the characters of Col Cane, Murdo and John.

The prose was well written and historically accurate with a few nice twists. The setting and plot is where the story really shone. The intricate description defiantly brought the world to life. The plot, while it had a few down moments, was on the whole quite compelling.

In conclusion, this book is a good way to kill a few hours and you may even enjoy it. Give it a go.
