Salt to the Sea

"War-Torn Germany. Four People, Four Secrets"
Salt to the sea is all about four people; Florian, Emilia, Joana and Alfred surviving World War 2. Emilia, who is 8 months pregnant comes from Poland so that makes her at high risk because Hitler didn't want any polish people in the country. Joana is from Lithuania but has permission to bin in Germany. Florian is from East Prussia and Alfred is from Germany. They all have a mission which is to get on a boat that takes them to Kiel. That boat is their only chance of survival. They all get on the bat but the ship was raided by Russian torpedoes. Will any of their secrets get out? Who will survive and who will die?
I really liked this book because it described what the World war may have been like for the civilians. At first, I didn't really know what Alfred was doing in the book because Joana, Florian and Emilia had all met each other. It wasn't until I got further along and it said that Alfred was working on the ship. I also really liked the way the book was written because each chapter was from a different perspective. However, I do wish that some of Alfred's chapters weren't just letters to this person called Hannelore because I didn't really understand what Hannelore had to do with the plot.
I would recommend this to anyone who is 13+ because it does contain some sexual references.
Hope you enjoy this wonderful book by Ruta Seeptys!!!
