After the Fire
I think After the Fire is a very interesting book. Although, the idea could be considered more unusual, basing the story around a religious camp, makes the story more intriguing for me. I like the idea of switching between the before and after, as it reveals parts of the story slowly and leads up to a climax. I especially love the characters in this book! You get to know the character of Moonbeam very well and I even feel emotional for her when she was reunited with her mum at the end. As the characters are so well written and described, the reader really becomes attached to them. However, I do think that sometimes the terminology used, because of the extreme religious aspect of this book was a little confusing for me personally. There is a good balance between narrative and dialogue, which really help the reader to relate to the characters emotions and get to know their personalities a little more. I quite enjoyed this book, but I found the story quite hard to follow. I think it was definitely aimed at older children to young adults because it has got quite mature themes.
