Kwame , Chapter 7

Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth

I think this book is very unique out of the Carnegie selection we have been given to read, I think this because the author Frank C. Boyce keeps this book very lively within the text from the begin to end with a few emotion roller coaster which leaves us the reader perplexed. This book is very flexible as it is based on an alien's perception on human behavior and value, to be honest I must give the author a round of applause as he kept me indulged and entertained as this book may have been aimed at a younger age group. A great technique that the author used to keep me reading was the element of misconception as at the beginning of the story i thought he was a human but as the plot grew and characters developed it was later to be revealed that Sputnik Mellows was an dog... But he was never seen to act like a dog unless he was asked. Considering that this was aimed at a young age group I was quite surprise on how the author manged to grow a atmosphere of emotion throughout the beginning of the story and show a strong bond between Prez and his granddad. In my opinion this is a great book and was a change out of the selection which means it deserves a big GOLD STAR!!! I recommend this book to many young children who are still learning in the world of literature.
