Lara H, Larkmead Secondary School

The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give: Little Infants Fucks Everybody: Thug Life. Starr is the only witness to a shocking shooting of her good friend Khalil, she is shoved into a tunnel of trouble immediately. If that wasn't enough she has to deal with her parents fighting, school and her annoying boyfriend Chris! How will she cope!

THUG follows how Starr does cope with the loss of Khalil and how 115 is put to court. It is set in America. Starr also has to put up with being two different people: Starr at home and Starr at school. It is a tale about what you can do if you're brave enough.

THUG was an amazing book full of suspense, sadness and emotion. I specifically liked Starr's character development. It was very clear to see that Starr improved as a person and held her own beliefs.

I would rate this book 5/5 and say that it is definitely a 13+ because of swearing and sexual references.
