Beyond the Bright Sea
Crow - She is feared hated and outcast just because of where she may have come from. Found crying with a hoarse Crow-like voice, she is adopted and raised by kind-hearted island man, Osh.
This book has it's ups and downs. Although there is some amazing descriptive writing throughout this book I think Wolk 'waffles' and repeats herself during the first chapters, however I cannot complain about her technique. She is an extraordinary writer.
My favourite character is Miss Maggie, a lovely island woman who treats Crow like any other islander. She sees nothing wrong with Crow and is not afraid of catching leprosy. Respectful, genuine and kind, Miss Maggie steals the show for me. My least favourite characters are the majority of the islanders because they are so fearful and rude, disrespectful and hateful towards Crow. She is just a girl and they get so wrapped up in their negativity they don't see her for what she is.
I would recommend this book to anybody above the age of 8. There is no rude content and this novel is quite easy to read. I rate it a 3/5 due to the dragging start.
