The Bone Sparrow

The Bone Sparrow was a terrific book. Subhi is a refugee, the immigration detention center is all he has ever known. This story, although it is fiction, demonstrates the horrors that refugees might have to face around the world. It is an emotional book with the main character facing many challenges all through this tale. This story shows how he manages to cope in somewhere that is such a horrible place to live in and how he holds onto his hope. During the story, he meets a new friend from ‘the outside’ (outside the fence) and their friendship grows strong despite the dangers of meeting each other. Unfortunately, he loses many great friends along the way and must put up with the horrible living conditions. You feel a pure hate for the ‘jackets’ or guards and feel sorrow, joy or anger when Subhi is feeling it. It was great. Overall, I think this was an amazing read and would definitely recommend it to others looking for a gripping book to read during the holidays.
