Eleanor, Carnegie Cliffhangers

After the Fire

After the fire is one of the best books I've ever read. Written in past and present tense, it is beautifully told from a 17 year old girl, Moonbeam's, point of view. Hill masterfully explores the psychological struggle of Moonbeam, who has been a member of the Lord's Legion (a fictional cult led by the messianic leader, Father John) until at the start of the book she is liberated in a large coup between the cult's members and the Government - the fire. Weaving between before and after the fire, you are taken on a thrilling, heart-wrenching, emotional rollercoaster, that is well worth a read.
