Salt to the Sea
I really enjoyed this book- it was really well written and had a good plot. It was very emotional but had a happy ending. I also learnt quite a lot about the war and the Wilhelm Gustloff. It is about a group of people, all with very different backgrounds, whose lives are mixed up as they have one thing in common- they all want to get on the Wilhelm Gustloff, either as a sailor, or to flee Nazi Germany. All the characters were really well developed and I loved all of them, except Alfred, who I really didn't like. I thought he was naïve and arrogant. I think this book has a really good chance of winning and it has been my favourite so far. I would recommend it to anyone, although it can be quite traumatising.
