Klara, Sir John's Shadowers

The Bone Sparrow

The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon is a brilliant, heart-wrenching story. It is about a refugee called Subhi who lives in an immigration detention centre. His life is tough but it's all he has ever known. One day he talks to a girl called Jimmie on the other side of the fence and begins to understand more about the outside world. They form a close friendship together. It is a story of friendship, bravery and rebellion. I really liked it because it is really descriptive and makes you feel like you're there. Also it opens your eyes to the kind of lives that some refugees lead. I found it very moving and I would recommend it to anyone who likes an emotional story. I would rate it 4/5
