The Stars at Oktober Bend
NOTE: I am reviewing this book solely on the few chapters I have read, as I have evoked my '100 page rule' on this particular book.
I have unfortunately, not been able to enjoy this book. What I struggled with is that the style of the book, while I am sure is to others' tastes, is not something I enjoyed. Also, I struggled with, while, I have heard, very much intentional and with great meaning to it at the end of the book, is that the main character, Alice, does not use any capital letters in the book. While this may not be struggle for most people, this did leave me frustrated as I read as much as I could of this book.
Also, I fail to understand a large number of poems, which this book contains an unusually large amount of.
However, many of the other members of my Shadowing Group, especially my librarian, have enjoyed the book and read the entire story, so I cannot imagine that the book is distinctly bad; just not for me.
