The Bone Sparrow
The Bone Sparrow is an extremely upsetting story about a refugee called Subhi born in an Australian permanent detention centre. His Mother and Sister fled the violence of a distance homeland, he only knew the life behind the fences. He believed that the world was bigger than that and believed that every night the magical night sea from his mother's stories brought him gifts. He also believes that the Whales sing to him and the birds tell their stories. He meets a refugee girl who is on the other side of the fence, who appears to not be able to read but she wants Subhi's help to read her Mother's journal who sadly passed away. Subhi and Jimmie might both find comfort and maybe even freedom.
In my personal opinion this book is really showing the truth behind the struggles of refugees and how they appreciate their life much more than others.
