Town is by the Sea

I found this book to be anticlimactic. The cyclical structure of the book continuously returning to the father under the sea mining for coal, with the darkness getting nearer to him, makes me as a reader, fear what is going to happen to him.

However, nothing ever does and while it is a relief that he didn't die, it made the story seem anticlimactic and pointless. Pointless because there is no problem to overcome or a challenge the character has to face. This is why I think that this book would only be enjoyable for children because older people expect and enjoy some type of twist in a story.
