The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give was a truthful inspiring story that uncovered many truths and issues that are sadly too often shown in our society today. The protagonist, Starr, showed courage and did what was right when so many things went wrong after her friend, Khalil, was unjustly shot by a police officer. Some called him a thug, some a drug dealer but Starr knew him as only one thing: an innocent, unarmed boy who died at the hands of a racist police officer. She re-counts the inspirational journey herself, her friend and family went through to try to get justice. She repeatedly conveys the important message that Black Lives Matter and 'The Hate U Give' repeatedly demonstrates just how often racialized violence takes place. The novel shows how the victims are put on trial not the perpetrators.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is feeling interested in today's issues.
