Ollie C, Tunbridge Wells Grammar School For Boys

The Stars at Oktober Bend

This book wasn't my favorite but it made an enjoyable read once i understood it.I will admit it was quite hard to understand. It takes a lot of reading between the lines and requires a lot of inferences. It is very clever writing because it has no capital letters while Alice is speaking which shows she hasn't got a good education.Alice has had an unfortunate past and finds it hard to speak due to brain damage.I do feel quite sorry for her because had mum has left, dad died, Grandad in prison. She only lives with her Grandma and brother joey.It co-stars a boy called Manny who too has had a violent past and used to live in Africa. Alice has picked up on writing and leaves poems everywhere she goes not knowing Manny James is right on her trail. Its a very sad book with a slightly happier ending.I liked this book because it is a very exciting story. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend but did certainly enjoy it. 3 stars.
