Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
I found this book interesting, as some parts were funny and imaginative, whereas others were a bit daft and silly. Although I didn't enjoy this book very much, I think younger children would (such as 7-10 year olds)as many of them have a slightly different perspective on what is possible in this world, which makes the book more magical. The characters were all believable, apart from Sputnik of course, as was the main storyline, apart from Sputnik (the idea of a young child who could no longer be looked after, sent away to live with a foster family, creating a whole fantasy world to cope with the sadness and stress of being separated from his Grandfather). I didn't feel like the book had a certain pull to it- to make me want to pick up the book and read it, but like I said it's not the kind of book I would read normally. However, it was original, as I've not read anything like it before and it was interesting to see how Sputnik found everyday items (such as a TV remote)so fascinating.
