Lauren Wolk’s children’s novel, Wolf Hollow revolves around twelve year-old Annabelle as she attempts to deal with a local bully named Betty while defending local recluse and World War I veteran Toby against lies and accusations of violence during World War II. The very first line of the book "The year I turned twelve, I learned how to lie," really drew me into the story straight away. By writing purely from Annabelle's perspective (unlike other short listed books) , Lauren Wolk takes the reader into her world and the dilemmas she faces whilst trying to protect Toby and do the right thing. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I think that it will stick with me for a long time. I would rate this book a 9/10 for its amazing characters and constantly intriguing plot.
