Gene Kemp grew up near Tamworth in the Midlands. She studied at Exeter University, taught, married and had three children. Although best known for her children's books she also writes for television, radio and the theatre. In 1984 she was awarded an honorary degree for her books, which have been translated into numerous languages.

  This is a must read for everyone. the ending has a brilliant twist which provides all readers with a wonderful denouement.

  I loved this book! i first read it years ago and it is still as good today. The characters are like pupils in every school in the land. (although we hope they don't go climbing up school towers!) superb!
