"What pleased me most about receiving the Carnegie Medal was the honouring recognition it symbolised by the public and school librarians, who have always been the nation’s mainstay of children’s and youth literature."
- Aidan Chambers

Welcome to our Anniversary!

In 2017 the CILIP Carnegie Medal reaches its 80th year and the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal its 60th. To mark this, we are holding a retrospective that celebrates the best writing and illustration for children.

Join the Celebrations!

Throughout the year we will be updating the website with ideas, resources and activities to help shadowing groups and libraries to join in the celebrations.

Read our Anniversary Blog featuring a past Carnegie winner each week

Visit our Archive and find reading resources

Contribute to the Greenaway Gallery for our anniversary takeover

Adopt a Book from the archive

Read specially written thought pieces reflecting on the past winning titles by writers including Nicolette Jones, Julia Eccleshare and Michele Gill and more

Use anniversary activities specially written by Damian Kelleher to help shadowing groups and young readers to explore the archive

Download an anniversary party pack featuring a large poster with all of the past winning books, branding bunting and more to decorate your library or classroom

Join in the party on 19th June 2017 when we celebrate all of the past winning books at the CKG 2017 winner’s announcement party. Tune into the stream online on that day or create your own party at the same time.

Key dates will be 16th March 2017 and 19th June 2017 but we want the reading activity and celebrations to continue all though the year. Use the anniversary logo to use to brand your events in your school or library. Let us know what you are planning:
