Group status: 2019 In gear and ready to go...
Hello from Derbyshire! We are a large comprehensive school in Hadfield near the old and characterful ex-mill town of Glossop, on the edge of the stunning Peak District National Park. Our keen Year 8 students are eager to see which books make the Carnegie shortlist. There'll be plenty of debate about the merits of the various stories, and we'll no doubt find it hard to measure the titles against each other in the bid to choose a winner. What's the best thing about reading a book?

It transports you to another place and time.
It calms and relaxes you after a hectic day
It helps you see other peoples' points of view.
Reading 'secretly' teaches you new words.
It gives you new ideas to think about
Reading a good story can make you feel all sorts of emotions.
Reading helps you to understand so many things...
There's so much to pleasure in reading a good book.
