Perse Preparatory School

Group status: We are an independent primary school of Year 3 to Year 6 girls and boys; shadowing the awards is a highlight of our reading year!

We have started shadowing this year in Story Club, reading Something about a Bear and writing our own bear stories.

We have got off to a great start with our annual Kate Greenaway shadowing with all the Year 3 & 4 boys and girls looking at the shortlisted books, watching what the illustrators have to say about their work and posting their reviews. Some of the Year 5 & 6 children have read a couple of the Carnegie books already and Library Club members are having a go reading and reviewing.

Title: Dogger
Illustrator: Shirley Hughes
Winning Year: 1977

Dogger shows the distress the loss of a toy causes a child, as well as the reality of family life. Filled with humour this is a book for young readers to tackle by themselves, as well as a delight to read aloud.
