The Poet X
'The Poet X' is such a wonderful book! It is like a free verse diary and while it is very enjoyable, a certain level of maturity is required as the language used is quite explicit.
Xiamora is a shy girl who lives with her weak but older brother, her very religious mother and her father. She doesn't like talking. Since she is so tired, her fists do the talking. One day, however, she finds herself doing slam poetry to release her feelings which she can't contain.
The book is very relatable as it focuses on a girl in secondary school like us. Set in Harlum, she has some feelings for a boy and she is changing both physically and mentally.
The book in fact was nothing I thought it would be. They say don't judge a book by it's cover. Well that is true! If you can contain your giggles and not judge books by their covers, then this book will be a must read!
