Lily, Glossopdale, Kim's Carnegie Crew

The Poet X

This fantastic book is about a 15 year old girl named Xiomara and her adventure but I’ll leave you to figure it out. This was extremely out of my comfort zone to read as it was written in verse and some of it in Spanish however this was certainly my favourite Carnegie book but not my favourite compared to other non-Carnegie books I’ve read in the past.

My favourite character would either be twin (Xavier) or the priest as they are both so understanding, almost like they're always in the background until Xiomara needs them and then they are always there. I also liked how Acevedo made the priest in such a similar way to Xiomara without X knowing so he was better at understanding however they both choose different decisions in the end but are both very happy.

I think the fact that Acevedo wrote this book so there would be more books about black/darker skinned people on bookshelves and it's gotten so far as to win the Carnegie award just shows how many people agree with me which is why I recommend it to 12+ but give 5/5 stars.
