Tansi, St Helen and St Katharine

The Poet X

Rebound by Kwame Alexander is an excellent book! The book is written in first person whose point of view is coming from the main character: Charlie Brown.
The main character Charlie Brown is a teenage boy who has a love for comic books and he had recently faced some trauma. Charlie lives with his mum and in the book, his two best friends: CJ and Skinny are introduced. Skinny is this boy who likes playing basketball and CJ is a really bright girl who has been best friends with Charlie since they were in kindergarten and they are very close.
During the book, Charlie goes off to his grandparents’ house where he hasn’t really been that often and at first, he was getting used to what his grandparents did and he was told to help them and so he did and over the course of a while, he started to get used to their lifestyle and had fun with them. During Charlie’s stay at his grandparents’ house, he also meets up with his cousin, Rosie, a lot. After hanging out with Rosie for a bit, he starts to develop a love for basketball which was surprising considering he has never been too fond of that sport.
After Rosie’s help and coming back from his grandparents’, basketball became everything for Charlie!
Overall, this book is very good and the writing style is very unique but it somehow made the book much more interesting and it would also build up tension at some points which I personally loved! The author has written the book very well including each emotion that Charlie is going through. The language of the book isn’t very formal considering that it is coming from a teenage boy’s perspective but at the same time, it isn’t too challenging to read so I would definitely recommend it to someone who like books a little more on the domestic side.
I would give this book a 7/10!
