Martha, Hope Valley College Borrowers
The Poet X
An utterly beautiful book - completely unique in its format and its structure. The poems definitely added more character to the book and made it more out-standing. Xiomara was portrayed as a stereotype, but the author ventured under that mask and created the scared, protective person that she is, changing the readers perspective of not only Xiomara, but of society in general.
Her mother was described very carefully, adding just the right amount of good intention and then twisting it with the creation of her methods that she used to impose that intention. Perfect.
