The House with Chicken Legs

I specifically chose this book for my first read as I believed it to be the one from the reading list which looked the least appealing. This would not normally be a book I would pick up purely because the blurb wasn’t intriguing enough and it gave the impression that the story would be slow paced and have a poor plot. Futhermore it didn't grab my attention because the first few chapters were not as captivating as many others I have read before so it was more of a challenging read to begin with and it dragged a bit. Although once I was into the book I just couldn’t put it down and it was a nice change to read something slightly different to my usual preferred genre. The book was about a young girl who travels around in her abnormal house in adventures which will chance her life forever. The House with Chicken Legs was a very interesting book which was brimming with real magic and very moving. Sophie Anderson added emotional tasters of how the character felt which touched me deeply and made the story make sense and more realistic. The loneliness of the main character added to the reality as well. Overall I think the book was a wonderful magical book and I would certainly recommend it to others any age. I would rate it overall 8/10 as I didn’t find it very good at the beginning but it got amazingly better in the middle and towards the end.
