Emily W, Sir Harry Smith Community College

Long Way Down

I'll be the first to admit that I was skeptical about a book written in poem. I thought it'd be too short, or too monotonous, or just repetitive. But as I began the book I realized that I was wrong. The poem was well written and the story was not underdeveloped. Plot devices and character backgrounds were revealed on a need to know basis and I appreciated that as a reader.

I also liked the plot, and think it's very relevant. As a white girl living in England, I couldn't relate with the characters, but that should not be the thing to hinder the enjoyment of a book. Although I couldn't relate, I'm sure that there's someone out there who could. I like that it had a message.

In conclusion, I did actually like this book. I didn't love it, and I don't think it will win, but it wasn't a waste of time.
