Emily, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls
Bone Talk received a bit of bad press before I read it, so I was a little dubious about it, but I have to say I don't think it was as bad as people made it out to be. The characters seemed believable, if in need of a little more in depth exploration. I thought the story was developed well and progressed at pace that kept readers interested without compromising the details. However, I felt the concept of the story itself was a bit odd and personally, I wasn't that engaged by it. As teenage girl, I couldn't really relate to the main character, desperate to become a man, and his best friend the aspiring girl warrior wasn't developed enough for her to provide a complex and interesting alternative to the main character and appeal to a wider audience. In my opinion, there was nothing wrong with Bone Talk, but nothing that special either.
