Tommy, Backwell School

The House with Chicken Legs

I loved this book because it focuses on an old story, but puts a more modern twist on it. The descriptions were great and all the characters are just right! I love how it focuses on loneliness and friendship (and the absence of it). Throughout the book you will really sympathise with the characters. There are some brilliant and completely surprising plot twists as well as some memorable and touching scenes. The author is able to change the mood and the scene extremely easily using her amazing similes and metaphors. It does start off slowly and it takes a while to get into, but it soon gets good. Give it a chance and you will quite probably find that you (like me) will find that it's your favourite book on the shortlist.
