The House with Chicken Legs
The House with Chicken Legs is an amazing book with a very touching story. It's main character is played by a girl called Marinka. Marinka has lived with her grandma in a very special house. Baba (Marinka's grandmother) was a yaga, this meant she lived a normal life by day but at night she would guide the dead. Marinka's grandma was happy in their house but Marinka wanted to live a different life, a life where she could be free from her house. They were staying in a village where they met a young boy called Benji. She jumped at the opportunity to become friends with him. Everything was going great until the house decided to move away from the village. Distraught by what had happened, Marinka felt more hate towards the house. She lived many unhappy days and they moved again. But one night, Marinka found a girl, Nina sitting on her porch. She soon realised Nina was dead and knew what this meant. Nina had not gone through the gate, to the stars. But instead of leading Nina to the gate, Marinka decided to become friends with her, unaware of the consequences. A few days passed and Nina began to fade away. Marinka knew what she had to do. That night, she lead Nina to the gate. but unfortunately, Nina was not string enough to go in by herself, so Baba had to go with her. Of course Marinka refused but nothing she could stay would change Baba's mind.
The only thing I did not like about the book was the beginning as I found it quite long and it made me not want to read it, but as I carried on reading I realise how much I love it. Overall I rate this book 4.5 stars out of 5
