Megan, Woodroffe 2019
'Rebound' offers an original approach to an unoriginal story. The verse form allows Charlie to find his own voice and expression amidst his grief, and I liked the characterisation of his grandparents - they act as refreshing catalysts, leading Charlie towards acceptance of life without his dad. However, 'Rebound' seemed typical of a Bildungsroman and teen fiction story, and its ending was very neat. It's a feel good read, sure, and we root for Charlie, but I'm not sure that the novel offers too much that is new.
