The Poet X
The Poet X is a gripping book set in the style of poetry; and it is set around the age group of teens. It is centered around a Fifteen year old Dominican girl called Xiomara who lives in Harlem and goes by the pseudonym: 'X'. She grew up in curves but has a feisty attitude when it comes to protecting her and her brother, whom she only calls twin. Later in the book, she finds out that her brother is gay and tries to protect him from her strictly religious parents. She expresses her feelings through her notebook, which then turns into poetry, the most relatable form of writing. She is torn between her religion, Catholicism, and her true feelings. The feelings in the book were enhanced by the fact that it was written in poetry style; and Elizabeth Acevedo mirrors her life flawlessly in this body of Xiomara.
