Long Way Down

It’s all about the rules
1 - no crying
2 - no snitching
3 - always get revenge.
This was a very deep, slightly creepy and out of the ordinary book written in verse. I enjoyed the book, especially the characterisation and being introduced to each one at each floor in the elevator developing the characters at every stop. The book is about two brothers William and Shawn who live with their mother in a bad neighbourhood controlled by gangs and the rules. Shawn is shot and the events that unfold are about how William deals with it, he has to make a decision to follow the rules or not. I also really liked the ending it wasn't long at all and didn't have much description but it was really effective and left it at an intriguing cliffhanger.

My favourite character was probably Buck this was because he was mostly laid back and always made an appearance in conversations, also whenever he struck a match to light a cigarette for a person in the elevator the lift stopped almost like he was controlling it.

The only criticism that I have for this book is that i would of liked some more detail on the mother because all I really know about her is that she has really bad eczema and this is integral to the story.

So all in all with its very minor flaws but fantastical written verse I will give Long Way Down an eight out of ten.
