A Skinful of Shadows

Although it had a slow start, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It really hooked me and I thought the style it was written in was brilliant. The story follows a young girl named Makepeace who has been raised by puritans in the small town of Poplar. With the outbreak of the civil war on the horizon and after the death of her mother, Makepeace runs away to live with and seek help from her father’s ancestors in Grizehayes. Whilst in Grizehayes, Makepeace learns a strange, mysterious secret about herself and her seemingly hostile ancestors. Full of supernatural mystery and excitement this book will have you gripped. I would give it 8.5/10 and would definitely recommend it to readers of my age.
