Erena, Thorpe St Andrew School - Page Turners Reading Group
This book is about a young boy in the tribes of the Philippines 100 years ago and his experience with colonialism and his struggle with manhood. I really enjoyed this book because it shows the different perspective of history 100 years ago. In class today you don't really learn about the Philippines or how the people there were treated. I think this book has really opened my eyes to this aspect of history, it is a really well written book that is culturally aware whilst being a good story and an interesting read. I also really enjoyed the fact that it is written in the perspective of a young child. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
