The Poet X

The Poet X, though a good book, is not outstanding in my opinion. Whilst it is one of the few books to write in the form of slam poetry, its action is not up to the standard of other nominees - the plot is also not particularly interesting for someone of my age as it explores some mature issues. Despite this, the link between plot and writing style of Slam Poetry was good.

There are many positives of The Poet X as well. It is completely believable due to the real-life Harlem setting and the tense atmosphere between Xiomara and her Mother is a continuing theme throughout the book. An advantage of the poetry style is that the book is easy to read - it is also enjoyable due to the good descriptions, emotions and high level of consistency.

I believe that this book, despite being unique, could have been executed better with a plot that appeals to readers of all ages.
