Eleanor, St Helen and St Katharine
The Poet X
This book is about young girl in Harlem who discovers poetry as a way to understand her mother's religion and her own relationship to the world. Xiomara has always kept her words to herself. where she lives fists and violence do the talking for her. She has secrets... Her feelings for a boy in bio class and the notebook of poems which she hides under her bed. I really liked this book because the emotional aspects of the storyline and characters. I would rate this book a eight out of ten because it was a very enjoyable read. It’s quite a mature storyline and subject so I would recommend this book for ages ten to thirteen. Lots of people of different ages could read this and enjoy but I think it is most suitable for those ages. My favourite character is Xiomara because as the story goes on her character develops and flourishes. I really like the way how this book is written in poetry like rebound because they are really fun to read as well as being a really good book. I think it is easier to read and more interesting when it is written in verse. I would definitely recommend this book but the storyline is a bit hard to understand. I had to read over a couple of pages again because they were a bit hard to understand. Thank you for reading my book review.
