Ellie, St Albans Girls School

The House with Chicken Legs

One thing I liked about this book was how it was written in the style of a folk tale, which set it apart from the other novels on the shortlist. Despite this, it was written in such a way that it still made it seem real and believable within that world. However, one thing I didn't like was the actions of the main character, Marinka, during the majority of the novel, in that she was very stubborn and refused to change the way she behaved. Overall, I liked the unique style of the book and it was in keeping with the culture it originated from.
