Asma, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls
Bone Talk is the coming-of-age story of a young boy called Samkad. It centres around his life in the Bontok tribe, in the Philippines a century ago, and is both educational and emotionally taut. Alongside giving a fascinating insight into tribal life and the horrors of colonialism, it also shows the challenges he faces as he grapples with what he believes is right and what he has been taught to believe. It definitely has a much deeper message than the story line would suggest. I would definitely recommend this book, and I know that it will stay with me for a long time.
